Happy #NationalSingleParentDay!!

March 21st is annually celebrated for the hard work, sacrifice and devotion it takes to be a single parent with double the responsibility. As any parent knows, single or not, the challenge it is to raise a child and/or children.

How and when did this day start? It was based off on an article written in 1984 by Janice Moglen, she was hoping that today could be as celebrated as Father’s or Mother’s Day. She has collaborated with the national foundation, Parents Without Partners, to petition states to recognize Single Parents Day.

Not a coincidence, Parents Without Partners was founded March 21, 1957 and also on March 21, 1984 President Ronald Reagan declared March 21st as National Single Parent Day.

Before they are 18, almost half of American children have been raised in there households by a single parent at one point or another.
