Happy National Learn About Butterflies Day!

Celebrated on March 14th, Happy National Learn About Butterflies Day! Spring and summer are practically here so it is a good opportunity to take a few moments and learn something new about butterflies.

Butterflies, like bees rely greatly on flowers as their main source for survival. So stop being a lazy douche and plant a row of daisies in your backyard this spring.

There are over 20,000 different types of butterflies in the world. They typically live anywhere from a week, to a year in some cases…what a life.

They are obviously insects that are related to its ugly cousin, the moth. Butterflies have appeared in ancient Egypt art almost 3500 years ago.

According to our friends at Google, Ornithoptera Alexandrae, the Queen Alexandra’s birdwing, is the largest butterfly in the world, with females reaching wingspans slightly in excess of 25 cm (9.8 inches). It is restricted to the forests of the Oro Province in eastern Papua New Guinea.

That’s a big ugly fucking insect that I would probably run away screaming from.
