NFL: Grading the Draft, AFC Version

AFC East

Patriots C

If you factor in their pre-draft trades it’s probably an A, but on the draft itself was pretty meh. They helped bolster their offensive line and got some guys that can get after the quarterback, which is always a plus.

Player we loved- Derek Rivers. Rivers comes a bit under the radar playing his college ball at Youngstown State, but make no mistakes about it, the guy can get after the ball.

Bills A

The Bills moved down from 10 to 27 and still got an impact player. They needed help all over and addressed it on both sides of the ball and got what looks like impact players in the secondary, the oline, WR, and linebacker. They also got a guy at QB that could develop into at the very least a solid backup.

Player we loved- Zay Jones. Jones also comes in a bit under the radar after playing at ECU, but Jones catches everything thrown his way, and he had a lot thrown his way.

Dolphins C

This is a very mediocre draft. No one really stands out to me. Tankersly is a good cover corner, but has no interest in helping in the run game, and that’s going to be a problem in the NFL.

Player we loved- Isiah Ford. Ford lasted until the 7th round, but he’s a big guy thats productive. Truth be told we didn’t really love any of their picks.

Jets C

The Jets picked up some solid players, but didn’t address their need at corner until late in a draft loaded with corners, it will haunt them

Player we love- Jamal Adams. As Rick Harris so eloquently put it, Adams was the safest player in the draft.

AFC South

Colts A

The Colts did a fantastic job retooling their atrocious defense. They picked 2 immediate starters in the secondary and a guy that can get after the quarterback in the third, not to mention some help at RB, where they currently have a 57 year old illiterate man playing.

Player we love- Malik Hooker. They got tremendous value getting Hooker at 15, he’s a top 5 talent.

Titans B

I want to give them an A, they got the best WR in the draft and did well elsewhere with playmakers, but they reached on Adoree Jackson, as dynamic as he is, he gets beat way too often.

Player we love- Corey Davis- Davis has all pro ability and upgrades a really weak WR corp.

Jaguars C

Leonard Fournette is Charmin soft and has bust written all over him and we’re not high on Cam Robinson.

Player we love- Dede Westbrook. Westbrook is a threat to score every time he touches the ball.

Texans D

They gave up entirely too much for a quarterback that we see being a bust. They did well other places in the draft, but giving up what they did is not worth it.

Player we love- Zach Cunningham. Getting a first round talent at 57 is always a good thing.

AFC North

Browns A

Funny to see A next to the Browns, but with 3 first round selections they may have made them immediately better. Garrett was a no brianer at 1, and Njoku has pro bowl pontetial. Peppers is a project though, and they get a QB with superstar potential.

Pick we love- Deshone Kizer. The Browns didn’t reach for a QB, and got the one with the highest ceiling at 52.

Bengals A

While Ross at 9 was a reach, they got great value in Mixon and Malone. They also got a few guys that can really get after the quarterback.

Player we love- Joe Mixon. While we don’t condone hitting women he may be the best back to come out of this draft.

Ravens B

The Ravens went hard after Alabama players and hard after defense. They still need to get FLacco some more playmakers.

Player we love- Tim Williams. Williams really gets after the quarterback and gets some youth in the linebacker corp.

Steelers B

They needed help getting after the quarterback and TJ Watt can do just that. Taking a WR in the second seems weird at first, but with the inability for Bryant to stay eligible and everyone outside of Brown dropping everything thrown at them. They got some much needed help in the secondary as well. Taking a LS in the 6th seemed strange though.

Player we love- Cameron Sutton. The Steelers struggled in man coverage, and Sutton thrives in it. He has the ability to start opposite Artie Burns.

AFC West

Chiefs C

The Chiefs gave up a lot to get Mahomes, while they don’t get docked as much as the Texans, because we think he’ll actually be good, it was still too much to give up. They took another project in the second, they don’t need instant impact, but thats a lot to invert.

Player we love- Kareem Hunt. Hunt is a do it all player that should improve their backfield.

Chargers A

Rivers needed help so they did just that. Keenan Allen can’t stay healthy so they got Mike Williams, and they have a weak line so they got 2 plug and play guys at guard in Forest Lamp and Dan Feeney.

Player we love- Forest Lamp. The guy has all pro written all over him.

Raiders B

We know about the Raiders explosive offense, but they needed help in the secondary and did that with their first 2 picks.

Player we love- Gareon Conley. He’s a great cover corner and despite some bogus rape allegations still went where he belonged.

Broncos A

Garret Bolles is an idiot, but he’s got talent despite being 37. The Broncos did a great job in the middles of the draft getting guys that can make an impact.

Player we love- Jake Butt. Butt was getting first round talk before tearing his ACL. Butt is a guy that should have a long productive career.
