Meat Molar Mystery: Hot-n-Sloppy Joes

016That’s right, Sloppy Joes, the food made notorious in cafeterias and mocked by Adam Sandler far too often.  We at FirstAndMonday think ol’ Joe got an unfair rap, branded by flabby lunch lady arms and boogery kids. We have taken the recipe and jacked it up with some fire. It’s a meat treat, rife with ground beef and plenty of kick, two things we love.  Add to it some cheese, shove that shit down your gullet with some chips, and it really is a complete meal. So give it a whirl, and get sloppy.

2 lbs Ground Round, Chuck, or Beef
18 oz bottle Original Open Pit BBQ Sauce
1 small onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, diced
1 small bell pepper, diced
1 Jalapeno pepper, diced
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp cayenne
sandwich or burger buns
cheddar or American cheese
ridged potato chips
2 tsp hot sauce
can tomato soup

In a large sauce pan, brown the beef.

Drain grease, add onion, garlic, Jalapeno and bell pepper. Cook until onion is translucent.

Add Open Pit, vinegar, Worcestershire, brown sugar, cayenne, hot sauce, soup, salt and pepper.

Cook 30 min to 1 hour on low to medium heat.

Serve on buns, topped with cheese, over a bed of chips.

Enjoy with a Pilsner or lighter ale.

Note: To make this same dish for boogery kids, omit Jalapeno, cayenne, and hot sauce.
