FAM’s Headline of the Day: January 29, 2018
The 2018 Grammy Awards took place last night. Among the “live” performances were the world citizens known as U2. They pre-filmed a performance of their new song “Get Out of Your Own Way” Friday night in New York City with the Statue of Liberty as a back drop.
Never one shy away from opining on politics, Bono did not let the moment pass him by without shouting to the world over a bullhorn what the concept of America means to him. Using President Trump’s own words, Bono bellowed out “Blessed are the shithole countries, for they gave us the American Dream.”
As FAM’s resident U2 fan boy I’ll freely admit that this was not the band’s best performance and the song itself wouldn’t crack a Top 50 list of their best works. However, it did make me smile to see them still being as subversive as ever. Look, they have more money than their families will ever possibly need, yet they are still out there trying to use the power of rock n roll to stand up for the rights of the powerless. The fights they choose are not their own and yet still they stand in the face of fascism with courage and conviction.
Yeah, I’m still a fan and always will be.
