Auto Club 400 Preview

by Sir Holden Asworth

I’d love to say we’ve learned a lot thus far after four races, but it’s really only one or two things. First, Kevin Harvick is fast – so fast that he’s won every race since Daytona. Second, NASCAR will always be a sport where people try to bend the rules. Roughly half of the field failed to pass inspection for qualifying on Friday, which meant those drivers were set to start at the rear of the field on fresh tires. This doesn’t seem like much, until you learn that drivers have to start the race on the tires they qualify on. As a result, NASCAR (in typical NASCAR form) decided to give everyone a new set of tires to negate the advantage those who didn’t qualify would have over those who did. Confused yet? So am I.

Who to Watch:

Cali Boyz – Johnson, Harvick and Larson. Starting 33rd, 10th and 3rd, respectfully.

Penske – Keselowski and Logano. Penske was one of the designers of the track, and Keselowski won here in 2015. They start 11th and 6th.

Kyle Busch – He won this race in 2013 and 2014, and he starts 2nd
