Champion of the Week

According to the FirstAndMonday head honchos, the site’s Twitter account will no longer follow @stilldmc aka Dakkari Dijon McAnuff . As a writer for this site, I would like to take a moment and respectfully express my disappointment with the FirstAndMonday brass. As a site that aggressively uses social media to spread its motto of “Because The Alternative Is Work” by publishing opinionated pieces, like the wildly popular daily segment called Morning Wood and the sublimely ridiculous This Day in Man History, how can we un-follow @stilldmc and still look at our own mugs in the mirror?

While nobody is saying that FirstAndMonday should encourage shooting someone, as Mr. McAnuff allegedly suggested, his reasoning should be enough to keep him on FAM’s followers list. All @stilldmc wanted was 100 ReTweets, is that so bad? No.  And in exchange for 100 ReTweets he offered to shoot someone in the ass with an air rifle. Is that good marketing? Yes.

This site has posted gifs of devil dogs, armed Guatemalans and some crazy eyed bearded guy that looks like he’s defecating, all in the past month, yet we’ve condemned Dakkari Dijon McAnuff for simply wanting to extend his social media footprint.

It’s time to re-evaluate our mission statement as a sport’s web site that caters to men. Let’s take a page from Dakkari Dijon McAnuff’s playbook and think outside the box. I’m not talking about sitting outside of the FAM headquarters with a high powered Daisy pump rifle threatening to pick people off unless they read Basketball Jonesing.  Rather, I’m talking about remembering why we’re here in the first place: To provide high quality entertainment. For helping us remember what this is all about, Dakkari Dijon McAnuff is FirstAndMonday’s Champion of the Week. Just please don’t shoot anyone in the ass. Unless it’s Evan.
