Champion of the Week

For those who have lived life thinking Jesus Christ is a symbol of peace and love, you had better stop reading now. Because, according to retired Lieutenant General William Boykin and apparently the bible, Jesus is coming back carrying some serious heat: the AR-15.

The scriptures that chronicle Jesus’s life are quite clear that the holy hippie preached about loving your fellow man. To quote John, or maybe Luke: “Come on people now, smile on your brother. Everybody get together, try to love one another right now”. General Boykin’s view of Jesus is different though.  “The Lord is a warrior and in Revelation 19 it says when he comes back, he’s coming back as what? A warrior. A mighty warrior leading a mighty army, riding a white horse with a blood-stained white robe. And I believe now that the sword he’ll be carrying when he comes back is an AR-15.” The Revelation Boykin refers to is the final chapter of the New Testament, sometimes called Apocalypses.

You may think to yourself that Boykin is cherry picking whatever verse in the bible suits his needs. And those a bit more read on the good book may also agree that the Jesus that returns during the rapture is actually fighting the demonic forces of Satan. Well you would be right, but who are we to tell Boykin that his Jesus H. Rambo fantasy is ridiculous? Do we really know what sort of assault rifle the heavenly father prefers? No we don’t and neither does the Pope, Vladamir Putin or even Ted Nugent.

For daring to ask the tough philosophical question about what sort of automatic weapon Jesus of Nazareth would use, then actually answering his own question, Ret. Lt. General William Boykin is FirstandMonday’s Champion of the Week.
